Community Catapult BeginsCommunity Catapult is literally an organization created from the Community for the Community. After doing some personal development, Founder Doug Hiltz had the desire to help someone without consideration of personal benefit. He awoke with an idea to help a homeless person become self sufficient. The idea was discussed with friends to see who would be interested in helping. “The response was amazing. Some offered furniture, some offered to work with the homeless person in developing social or personal skills and some agreed to help raise funds.” The show of support added the momentum required for this idea to expand and a team to form. It was taken to The Welcome Inn Community Centre, where Doug took their 10 week Bizplan course. At this point the idea evolved into a project called “Home, Street, Home” which quickly went from an opportunity that would give one homeless person a life changing opportunity, to the formation of a nonprofit organization that will present opportunity for anyone interested in changing their situation and ending poverty in Hamilton. Community Catapult has since began work on organizing their first fundraising event called “Bands Battling Poverty” This is the first of many frontline projects planned, as steps, for overcoming their first milestone in the implementation of the community development era in Hamilton, The acquisition of a Community Development Resource Center. Community Catapult’s team continues to grow with passionate, knowledgeable, determined, and compassionate leaders who are taking ownership of their community. If you are like minded and interested in joining in common purpose, we invite you to contact one of our team members. |
